Founded by philosopher Nelson Goodman at the Harvard Graduate School of Education in 1967, Project Zero began with a focus on understanding learning in and through the arts.

Our friends at dpict invited Alphachimp to collaborate on a large timeline and other painterly illustrations to celebrate the past, present, and future of this 50-year-old project investigating the realms of creativity, learning, teaching, and neuroscience.

For five decades, Project Zero (PZ) has led dozens of research projects that have influenced the field of education around the globe. Anchored in the arts and humanities, and with a commitment to melding theory and practice, the researchers and practitioners continue to work towards a more enlightened educational process and system that prepares learners well for the world that they will live, work and develop in.

To launch its 50th anniversary, PZ convened a special event on Friday, October 13th, 2017 at the Harvard Graduate School of Education in Cambridge, Massachusetts.

For two days prior to the PZ celebration, the team work with acrylic paint, markers, chalk and all sorts of mixed media in a church basement in the working class neighborhood of Dorchester.

These installations represented a half-century of iconoclastic investigations into changing conceptions of the mind and the implications of these changes for today’s teachers, schools, and society.

Sita Magnuson (above) led the process of transforming the history of PZ into colorful paintings and illustrations using multi-media art supplies.
